About the Department

 

The department of Computer Science and Engineering was started in the year 2008 with intake of 60 students per year. The various features of the department are given below:

Vision

  1. To facilitate our students to become a successful Computer Science Engineer.

  2. To facilitate our students to develop innovative Mini projects, Projects etc.

  3. To facilitate our students to be versatile and improve their coding skills.

  4. To facilitate our students to be achievable and tackle any kind of situation.

Mission

  • To educate Engineering concepts by simple examples

  • To educate the basics of software development according to the industry requirements

  • To educate the importance of team and involving individually for finding their own skills

  • To educate ethics and moral values

Faculty Members

The faculty members in the department are qualified as per the norms of the affiliating Anna University, Chennai and approving authority All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The number and the cadre ratio of faculty members are maintained as per the norms. Two doctorates are available in the department and hence performing well.

2(f) Status

The department is recognized to be in the status under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 on 19-02-2020. This recognition is given for the fulfillment of certain norms of UGC. On possession of the 2(f) recognition, the department is eligible to apply and get grants from UGC for performing the given or proposed projects.

E(I) Students’ Chapter

The department can be granted Students’ Chapter of “The Institution of Engineers (India)” with a minimum membership of 20 members. This recognition can be used to get project fund for the students and faculty members from IE(I) and also eligible to apply and get grant to conduct seminars/ Workshops/ Conferences.

Beyond Curriculum

 

In-plant Training

From III semester onwards, students are encouraged to go on In-Plant Training (IPT) during their semester holidays in the following industries for the better understanding of their subjects and to understand the industrial scenario.

Value Added Course

From II-year onwards, the following value added courses will be taught to the students to be more employable.

English Proficiency Training

Apart from the curriculum courses such as Technical English, Communicative English, Interpersonal skills, Advanced Reading, listening and writing, and Communication skills, a separate training session in the name “English Communication Skills (ECS)” is conducted for all the I year students.

Placement Training

 

During the VII semester, all the students will be given placement training by the expert in the industry. The students will be trained in the following areas:

Research & Development

Research Centre

The department of CSE is recognized as research centre for pursuing collaborative research with Anna University, Chennai. One faculty member is recognized as research supervisors by Anna University, Chennai. We have two doctorates in the department and they are experts in the areas of Image Processing, Databases, Artificial Intelligence and Stereo Imaging.              

The followings are the achievements of the research centre:

  1. The centre has received a grant of Rs.11,15,00/- from Science and Engineering Research Board for doing the project titled, “Design, Development and Experimental Studies of a Stereo Vision Based Travel Aid for Blind Navigation” on 01-08-2016. Project status: Completed

  2. The centre has received a grant of Rs. 86000/- from Travel Grant for participating in 2016 THE 8TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON DIGITAL IMAGE PROCESSING from 20-05-2016 to 22-05-2016 in CHENGDU,CHINA.
